CAR tested this performance-oriented Sentra in 1993 and started the test with, “This time around, they’ve got it right!” The Sentra 200 STi has since garnered a large following in South Africa and has won the heart of many a boy racer. The SR20 motor is much-loved and delivered 103 kW and 179 N.m of torque at the time of testing. Performance numbers were impressive – it managed to go from standstill to 100 km/h in 8,57 seconds and had a top speed of 209 km/h. CAR praised this car for its dynamics and its cut-and-thrust driving capabilities. When it went up against its competitors in a comparative test in 1992, it finished a close second behind the BMW 1,8-litre 316i and ahead of the Honda 160i Luxline and Toyota Corolla 1,6 GLi Twin Cam.
