the future is handsfree

A number of manufacturers are working on self-driving vehicles and Cadillac aims to have its semi-autonomous Super Cruise system in the market by the middle of the decade! Though not a completely autonomous system just yet, it is a first step to cars that don’t necessarily need a hands-on driver. And that’s sad. The folks at AutoBlog recently tried out Cadillac’s system. Follow the link for more info and a press release.

Sad to see stuff like this. We complain how stupid people are behind the wheel and life in general but the irony is the more control we take away from people the less we practice and use our own God given abilities and common sense in situations….and so the snowball effect continues.

Stuff like mandatory advanced driving courses and maybe even making it mandatory every year to keep your skills up to date should be looked at. The ability of a person to control a car and avoid a accident in the first place can save lives and unnecessary insurance claims.

    Why…?

I will not buy a new German executive because they are taking away manual gearboxes, now the industry is trying to sell me a car that takes me out of the equation entirely? Guess I’ll hold on to my old car with manual everything.
