Every car fan has played this game. Close your eyes and imagine that you are walking towards a building with five closed garage doors. It can be any building, old or new, but the important thing is that it is yours and, as such, the contents of said garages are also yours. Five doors, five cars. So, with price and availability taken out of the equation, which cars would you have hidden behind each door?
To date we’ve visited 12 garages, one for each member of the CAR team and last week Springbok legend John Smit took us on a tour of his ultimate collection. With apologies to John, this week’s tour guide is decidedly better looking…
Crowned Miss South Africa in 2000, the beautiful Jo-Ann Strauss has one of the most recognisable smiles on local television screens. Having presented for shows like Pasella and Top Billing Jo-Ann knows a thing or two about style and making an entrance. Married to German Michael Held, she was also recently introduced to the unrestricted autobahn, which only reinforced her love for speed.
Jo-Ann is also the founder of the Princess Project aimed at providing dresses to deserving ladies for their matric dances, as well as the brain behind www.presentersearch.co.za.

Bugatti Veyron
I’m a speed freak so naturally I’d have the fastest car in the world in my garage. Beautiful detailing and lots of presence, the Veyron definitely stands out from the crowd.

Audi R8 e-tron
The R8 has always been one of my favourites. Aside from its great looks, it is also one of the least intimidating supercars to drive. I love that the e-tron is all-electric (perfect for a “save the world” beauty queen) yet still boasts great performance.

Porsche Carrera GT
I have a special appreciation for all things German (including my husband) and find the Carrera GT to be the perfect package of everything that is good about Germanic automotive engineering. Stunning looks, exceptional attention to detail, and very, very fast.

Lamborghini Aventador
Okay, so as clinical as the Germans are, there can be no denying the passion that the Italians put into building cars. The Aventador, apart from being fast, looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. Talk about making an entrance!

Bentley Continental GT
While there is a lot of power listed about, let’s face it there isn’t much luggage space. A girl likes to shop and for my shopping excursions I’d take my Bentley Continental GT. Recently launched with a great new V8 engine (better for the environment than the old V12) I love the style and sophistication associated with the Bentley.
