Every car fan has played this game. Close your eyes and imagine that you are walking towards a building with five closed garage doors. It can be any building, old or new, but the important thing is that it is yours and, as such, the contents of said garages are also yours. Five doors, five cars. So, with price and availability taken out of the equation, which cars would you have hidden behind each door?

With each member of the CAR team having given you a personal tour of their dream garage we invited Springbok legend John Smit and beauty Jo-Ann Strauss to submit their own five-car fantasy garages. This week, well-known radio personality (and self-confessed car nut) Ryan O’Connor gives us a virtual tour of his ultimate collection.

A born and bred Capetonian, O’Connor’s voice first hit the airwaves in 1995 when he joined Christian radio station CCFM. A nine-year stint at Cape Town-based station Good Hope FM was followed by a move to Kfm where he hosts its popular weekday breakfast show (06h00-09h00). O’Connor won the award for breakfast presenter of the year at the 2012 MTN Radio Awards.

“I simply love this game and my dream garage changes every two hours of the day and at least twice in my sleep. My cars are all current models bar one that is due for release soon. I have also had the privilege of driving all but one of the cars in my dream garage. I am a massive V8 fan but for good measure there is a six-cylinder in the mix too here.”

“The reasoning behind a modern garage is a simple one. Although I’m a massive fan of classic cars the real life issues of maintenance and the worry when driving them due to their irreplaceable values means that most of my ideal ‘dream garage’ would never actually leave the garage. Thus the one I have chosen represents something I could use everyday and for whatever occasion without worrying too much about leaking oil or old people and their ‘car-magnet’ Pick n Pay trolleys.”
