You can join in the action

Around this time every year, when the rest of the working world starts planning annual family getaways or year-end office parties – the CAR staffers are planning a trip of our own and a punch-up to boot!

It’s become known as the CAR Performance Shootout, and involves us choosing a bunch of the hottest performance cars available in South Africa right now and heading to one of our country’s many racing circuits to pit those cars in a battle of grip, grunt and guts during a day of demanding testing and evaluation by a well-known racing driver – all for the January performance issue of CAR magazine.

This year’s Shootout, sponsored by Bridgestone and Caltex will really be tough going. We’re taking a few of the more road-oriented vehicles along for an intense trip up-country through Beaufort-West, Bloemfontein, Durban and then Johannesburg – before we let rip at Kyalami. You can follow our progress on this site in the coming days, meet us at selected Caltex service stations on the route and if you live in Bloemfontein, come meet the CAR team and ogle some of the performance cars at Preller Square from 17:00 on Friday, November 18th.

To get into the mood, watch last year’s driver Sabine Schmitz taking colleague Juliet McGuire around Zwartkops in BMW’s M3 Frozen Edition. We’ll give one lucky Kyalami spectator the opportunity to go around the track as a passenger with our track driver, Deon Joubert, in one of the Shootout vehicles.

So be sure to come and join us at Kyalami on Monday 21 November from around 7 am for the January 2012 performance shootout!

Brought to you by Caltex
