As some of you, I have a dream of what my (realistic) garage will look like one day. At this stage I think I would probably park a motorcycle in there rather than a car, simply because it is cheaper. But that is to an extent one of the last things I think about now. What I can more comfortably dream about is what furniture I will be able to put in the garage (if it is big enough), and what will be displayed on the walls.
Now, I am a very light traveller, to the extent that when I travel abroad I take a bar of Sunlight soap with me. This way I can pack fewer items of clothing by washing them regularly.
Having said that, when I saw the A0 size, hardback plastic picture of the Nissan DeltaWing in each of the journalists’ rooms at Le Mans, it immediately got me thinking.
We were allowed to take it home with us. Very easy if you live just across the English Channel, or in Europe. Less so for us. I still had to take the shuttle to the tram station, the tram to the train station. The train to Paris, overnight at a hotel close to the airport, board a flight to London the next morning, and after three days in London travel back to Cape Town (via three flights)!
Inside me was a raging battle between travelling like I prefer to, and travelling with this awkward poster just to be able to mount it someday somewhere. This time the memorabilia urge won the day!
